Hello, in the U S if a G P S is used in a search grid I. E. a search for a missing person would the grid be in meters or yds. Actually my question should probably would the grid be in square meters or square yds. Thanks.�� ������
I searched the internet unsuccessfully to find the answer to John's question. That led me to theorize regarding the subject.
The GPS satellites emit only constant frequency radio waves. It is up to each ground station to interpret the phase differences between these signals into geographical coordinates and altitude measures. It is the ground station that determines what geographical coordinate system to use and whether to express the altitude in feet or metres or whatever.
