phill could you please tell us if the Tropicana O J in the 1.75 l bottles had fluid ounces as well?  Was it bottled in the states?  You said that in n. J. they can sell gasoline by the liter as long as the price per gallon is displayed as well.  As far as i'm concerned this defeats the purpose of selling gas by the liter.  As  long as the price per gallon would be isplayed people would never think about the price per liter.  In Canada when we went to pricing gas by the liter it was all done at the same time.  It worked well i would venture to say that most drivers when they by gas don't convert the liters to gallons.  I would also say that their are probably a lot of drivers who don't know the conversion factor between imperial gallons to liters.  It's the same with haveng both metric and imperial or American customary on labels.  As long as the old measurements are on the packages people will never think metric even with the metric on the package.  I would like to say something about teaching people metric in my age group.  I am 54 years old and was taught imperial, what i'm going to say i know isn't the right way but please let me say it.  If i were going to talk toa group of people about metric and show the length of a meter i would tell them it's a little longer than a yard.  I might go as far as having both a meter stic and a yard stick so they could see the difference.  The reason i say this is because most people learn visually.  If they can see the difference i feel it would stick in their minds.  If someone told me that a meter is a little longer than a yard been a blind person i'd want to feel the difference.  The only difference between myself and a sighted person is that i use my hands to get the immage to my brain.  My hands are like your eyes.  People in my age group unless they are really metric will probably allways relate back to inch pound in their minds.  That's something we can't control.  I agree the more metric is talked and used every day the less people will think inFFU units.  I know that comparing FFU units to metric is probably not the best way to teach people metric but this isn't a perfect worl.  One more thing if dimentions on products were given in metric only people would get used to it. If this were to happen i feel there would need to be an educational brogram threw the media.  People might think if everything went metric they would have to get rid  of there rulers.  This is not true we all know that rulers are double sided.  The only reason cm's that are already on rulers is not used is because everything is sold in FFU units.  Have a great day.
