Hello i have given metricating  existing terms more thought.  If you called 500 g a lb that would only be in speech.  You wouldn't have the ounces on the package only g. I don't know about a metric gallon when we started using liters for dairy products in canada we changed from gallons of milk to 4 liter jugs 2 liter and one liter cartens.  There are probably people still think of the 4 l jug as a gallon 2 l as half gallon and 1 l as a quart.  Even if peple call metric measurements by old names as long as the FFU arn't listed on the products the metric units will aventually become part of every day life.
