The following article appeared in Monday's edition of the Globe and Mail of Toronto:
 
 
If what the article describes comes to pass, there will be a major change of the economic structure of the world.  That change could be very beneficial to the metrication of the US.  When OPEC finally does switch its oil currency either fully or partially from the dollar, it will mean the end of dollar hegemony.
 
The US will not be able to rely on the  benefits of dollar hegemony anymore and will have to develop an export attitude in order to balance its accounts.  Exports won't be possible without an attitude of metric. 
 
If we are lucky, we may see metrication happening in about 5 years.
