Seriously, though, I opposed the use of HTML emails on this list for a long time -- 
simply because several participants had no HTML capability in their email software. 
However, over time, as people have upgraded or replaced their email software, that has 
changed.

Because HTML formatting occupies more space than plain text, I still favor plain-text 
formatting for messages that only contain plain text. However, it makes sense to make 
an occasional exception for messages containing special characters, exponents, 
graphics, etc.

The really objectionable thing is the copying of entire web pages into messages to be 
sent to this list, rather than simply providing links to the pages' locations on the 
web. Fortunately, that doesn't seem to be happening anymore. (I'm trying to remember 
who it was who was doing a lot of that until he was asked to stop.)
