Page layout program Adobe InDesign also allow you to set type size in
millimeters. The dialog box defaults to points (regardless of your default
ruler units), but you can type "2mm" if you want.
Kerning and tracking are set in thousandths of an em, and cannot be set in
other units. That is probably because an "em" is the width of the
character "m" in the current font (typeface, weight, point size), so it is
a relative rather than absolute measurement.
