Small correction for you, too, Marcus.

It's either "liters per 100 kilometers" or "L/100 km". Per is not used with
symbols and the solidus isn't used with full unit names.

I wouldn't expect the average person (i.e., someone we're trying to persuade
to use metric) to know that and wouldn't worry if s/he didn't conform
perfectly to that standard, but those of us who are regulars on this list
know better, don't we?  <g>

Now, daL/Mm -- that's really elegant (and would be more so if the next CGPM
meeting would change the prefix da to D, for DL/Mm). It won't fly with most
people, unfortunately. L/100 km and km/L are too entrenched.
