Interesting that U.S. Customary units are referred to as the “official system”.  U.S. customary units are neither official or a system.  Congress and each state only define “units in customary use”.  Ironically, the only official system as defined by law is SI.  If you really think about it, units in customary use would also include the meter, kilogram and liter as people use these units in one degree or another on a daily basis.  I believe that a recent survey of people (not sure if it was just school kids or included adults) showed that people think of the meter and liter as being “customary”.
