I'll take this opportunity to respond to Euric on this matter. Hopefully this will help quench some people's opposition to the discussion of this time reform idea. Consider this as an additional *point-of-order*, please.
At least *I*, personally, am giving up on pursuing a change to the size of the second. Nonetheless I still find it *imperative* that the current time construct be changed. And based on the number of sites and developments I keep seeing and reading around the internet I'm confident that this reform WILL take place (like it or not!...).
Now to the real reason of this post of mine, which is *informational ONLY*, please.
After much mulling over the issue of names for a new time unit (percentimesecond) I wanted to share what I came up with. This is tentative, but looks like a reasonable proposal (if anyone would like to advance other suggestions and/or discuss this, please send an e-mail to me ONLY as I don't want to engage in this type of discussion here. Thanks).
So... Behold the ip (that's right, just... ip - not to be pronounced as I - PEE, but like the word hip without the 'h').
Main justifications:
1) It could be thought of as an abbreviation for international percentimesecond
2) It's just a syllable, very easy to pronounce, etc
3) Its sound does resemble the ticking of time
4) The initial letter does not interfere with any other prefix or unit that I know of
5) It's relatively language insensitive and should not pose any difficulty to any particular people around the globe to use
It evidently goes without saying that the "symbol" for it would be just the letter 'i', without the p.
Time would evidently be reported as, say, 57.5 ki, or pronounced, 'kiloips'.
There... :-)
Now back to our regular schedule... ;-)

Euric...

what excuse can you possibly give to NOT go SI???
