Indeed. In the UK, car engines have been described in litres for years.
Other non-liquid things that you will find described in litres in the UK
are:

Car boot (trunk) volume. To see if it will contain your luggage.

Luggage volume (I recently used the litre value as a key comparison when
buying a rucksack for a walking holiday).

Kitchen microwave cooker volume

Fridge and freezer volumes

Lung volume

Gas and air cylinders e.g. for medicine, cooking and diving.

Office containers
