I read about corporal punishment on British
schools in the past and especially about the dreaded swishy rattan cane (up
to eight of the best), which set its victim's backsides in flames,
and often such punishment was meted out for the flimsiest reasons. I wonder
how many British boys have been caned, slippered (beated with gymshoes) and
birched in the past for getting their sums in Imperial units and LSD money
wrong!
