It also gives us something to complain about and as Hawkeye in MASH said well that keeps us in balance.
So enjoy the weirdos they make life interesting.

suspended parking bays - metric sign
March 29 2004 at 10:08 AM Steve
I have just been towed away from a parking bay in wandsworth with a perfectly valid ticket displayed on my screen. reason given - a sign on a post some 20 feet away which I hadn't noticed saying "bay suspended 15m from lamppost". can anyone tell me if parking bay suspension signs in metres are legal or not. If they are illegal I will use this fact in my defence.
Help from all you metric experts please and well done all of you in your campaign.
If you see the pattern you will see why the UKMA has to do whatever it takes to get the law amended that restricts metric signage.
People who don't even pay attention to the signs are being absolved of citations by claiming the use of metric was illegal and thus that caused them to have either an accident or to park in the wrong place.
In the above posting the driver admitted, he didn't even see the sign until after he was cited by the police, but was later able to get out from paying the fine based on the sign having metric on it.
In the first posting (click on link to read article), the driver claims he didn't understand the sign even though he was educated in metric. Yeah, right! I'd bet he never saw the sign until later and used the "illegal metric use" excuse to get compensation.
This is a ploy of the BWMA to undo road sign metrication; that is to get people to claim they had damage to their vehicles because they didn't understand the sign.
What a scam!
