A trick I've learned:

1.  Hit reply or forward.  This opens a new window which lets you edit the
existing text.
2.  Put your cursor at the end of the first line of the URL and hit delete
once.  This usually combines the URL without deleting a character (it
deletes the invisible hard break).
3.  Now click on the URL and it should work.  I tested this one and it did.

For long URLs, it is often better to make a short one, using
http://tinyurl.com and then you something like
http://tinyurl.com/4xqnr
which takes you to the site linked to below, but avoids the problem of
the link being so long it breaks up before the end of the line.
