It's neither more nor less than an abbreviation for carbohydrates.
The term "carbs" is used on consumer foods as an "abbreviation" for BOTH "grams of carbohydrates" and for "carbohydrates." Sure, grammatically it is just the latter, but in actuality it is used both ways, not withstanding the literal meaning of "abbreviation":
"3g net carbs" (Momentum carb management bar) "0 Sugar carbs" (Carboright milk chocolate almonds) "3 carbs" (Lowcarb Crunch bar)
I also notice that the Carborite almonds are labeled "NET WT 1.77 OZ (50g)" and the Crunch bar is labeled "NET WT 1.58 oz (45g)"
Seems that metric creep continues.
