Marcus, I appreciate your willingness to continue to try and change my mind, but your email merely confirms what I said:

(a) I think the USA is metricating (albeit slowly) and I see lots of examples of it, but cannot offer 'proof,' so you will continue to deny we are metricating.

(b) I stand by my statement that I won't sacrifice any freedom in the cause of metrication. I did NOT say that we have complete measurement freedom now -- of course we don't in many areas. Nor am I saying that I have any control over this. However, I AM saying that I will fight tooth and nail to defeat ANY legislation mandating metrication, and have no doubt that you will think I am totally bonkers for this.

Since we have such different fundamental beliefs in these areas, further debate is fruitless.

Fun, perhaps, but fruitless.

Jim

P.S. For any newer list members, let me add two items to (b):

(i) I am all FOR legislation PERMITTING metric usage, or solely metric usage, where it is currently forbidden, after which metrication will "win" since it is a better system. (There are plenty of places where the government is the obstacle to metrication.)

(ii) I have put a lot of my own time and money into the metrication effort. I strongly believe in metrication, just not forced metrication.
