Ahem to your ahem.

USMA is not an acronym -- unless you want to get everyone to pronounce it
"ussmah." Everyone I know spells it out, as initials -- "you ess emm ay."

I agree with you about micron, though. It's unacceptable, as its old symbol,
�, is now exclusively a prefix -- and, in SI, a prefix may not stand alone.
It's as bad as referring to a kilogram as a kilo (or, as the really
ill-informed say, "keelo").
