Manastash Metric rolls next weekend
Bike ride lets people view autumn colors

Autumn colors, mountain scenes, historic towns, the Thorp Mill and the twisting Yakima River are all part of the experience along the Manastash Metric Century/Half-Century Bicycle Tour, which takes place next Saturday.

This challenging 104-kilometre ride travels through some of Central Washington's most scenic cycling country. The terrain is gently rolling - except for one 120 m hill climb.

There is an alternate half-century (52 km) route touring similar country but turning around near Thorp. The short route avoids the hill climb.

Allen Larsen, winner of the solo division of the Race Across America in 2003, will ride the route again this year. He invites all riders to join him for a fast-paced ride on the long route of the Manastash Metric. Approximate start time for him is 08:30 h.

New this year, by popular demand, are souvenir T-shirts available for purchase for 10 $.

Registration and rider check-in runs from 07:30 to 09:00 h. at the corner of Second Avenue and Pearl Street inside the Ellensburg Public Safety Building. All riders should be on the course no later than 09:00 h.

Snacks, fruit, liquids and a sagwagon will be provided. At the conclusion of the tour, participants are invited to a free shower at Hans' Gym and an all-you-can eat pizza feed at Grant's Pizza Place (3.00 $ with coupon).

October is usually sunny and pleasant in the Kittitas Valley. Poor weather, however, is always a possibility so bring warm-ups, windbreakers, etc. This ride has enjoyed a 13-year run of no rain.
