I am not sure whether the UK is regarded as a metric country but I was interested in the posting. I looked up a UK online supplier: www.screwfix.com Nails were described on that website by style and by length (mm), and sometimes by diameter (mm). Quantities were sold by weight (kg). I am sure that nails described in inches are still easily obtainable in the UK. I have never heard of the penny classification, but it would not surprise me. I will try to check on this next time that I am shopping.
