If you multiply 24 x 16.9, you do get 405.6
floozies, but if you multiply 500 mL x 24 you get exactly 12 L. The 11.994
L is obviously a conversion of the 405.6 as you noted, a back conversion, but as
we see with back conversions, the effects of multiple round-off errors.
Michael also erred. He said 25 x 500 mL you
give 12 L, when instead it is 12.5 L. the 24 count does give us the
correct 12 L.
Michael, what was the response to the phone
call?

Ah, the
wonders of back-converting.

Recently bought a case of Propel vitamin enhanced water. The case
contained 24 x 500 ml bottles. But on the case was printed "24 16.9 FL. OZ.
(500mL) Bottles NET WT. 405.6 FL. OZ. (11.994 L). I called
them and asked why don't they get someone with some intelligence to design
the packing. Obviously if we have 25 x 500 mL, we have 12 Liters and Fluid
ounce is not a weight, it's a volume. The bone heads they have in some of
these companies are truly amazing.
