Egyptian cotton exported to 17 countries, prices
drop

Egyptian cotton export prices dropped last week (ended on October 21)
compared to the previous week, said Salah Attar, Chairman of the Arbitration and
Cotton Testing committee. He said Giza 70/88 extra long staple grades dropped to
sell at 90.75 cents and 70.50 cents per
pound, down by three and 3.25 cents respectively compared to the
previous week.
Cotton export contract prices of long staple Giza 86 sold
at 82.50 cents per pound from 83.5 cents per pound the previous week. He said in
his weekly report the total amount of cotton hair export contracts during the
fifth week of the export season (October 17 to 23) reached 53.620 metric
kantars.
Total cotton export commitment since the beginning of the season
until October 23, reached 283,770 metric
kantars.
Export contacts for excellent long staple grades
since the beginning of the season reached 129,620 kantars, or 45.68 per cent of
the total export contracts, he said.
Export contracts for long staple
reached 149,860 kantars or 52.81 per cent of the total contracts. He said
Indonesia and Germany entered the market as importing countries for the first
time this season to increase the number of countries buying Egyptian cotton to
17 countries so far.
India led the list of importing countries,
contracting for the purchase of 23.89 per cent of the total
contracts.
Switzerland ranked second while the UAE followed
third.
