Dollar Hits New Low Against Euro, Gold Mixed in Europe

LONDON (AP) -- The euro surged to a new high against the U.S. dollar for the fourth straight day Friday, although the greenback rose against some other currencies. Gold prices were mixed.
The euro hit an all-time high of $1.3329 in Asian trading, then eased to $1.3264 in late-afternoon trading in London, up from $1.3230 late Thursday. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro was quoted at $1.3288.


Other dollar rates in European trading, compared to late Thursday, included 102.75 Japanese yen, up from 102.55; 1.1417 Swiss francs, down from 1.1420; and 1.1785 Canadian dollars, up from 1.1780.

The British pound was quoted at $1.8936, up from $1.8874.

In midday trading in New York, the dollar bought 102.56 yen and 1.1388 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.8968.

Gold dealers in London fixed a recommended price of $452.40, up from $451.50 late Thursday. In Zurich, the bid price was $451.13, down from $451.38. Gold rose $3.30 in Hong Kong to $452.45.

Silver traded in London at $7.67 bid per troy ounce, up from $7.65.
