I think this has to become law, otherwise the US will no longer be able 
to sell goods in the EU after 2009. So either the US govt will blind 
itself to the truth and not bother with metric, and lose half or 
whatever of its exports, or it will have the courage to allow 
metric-only labelling and so on in the USA in order to better compete on 
the world scene. I think that most countries outside of the USA do not 
want non-metric labelling, especially in countries where they have not 
learned anything related to US customary units.
