Correct, John. "k" is often used when talking
about salaries,or house prices, in the thousands of currency units.
Another SI prefix you'll hear bandied about is "mega." In a number of
municipal lotteries, one of the game campaigns is called "Megabucks,"
since the prizes are usually in the millions of dollars. My
home state of Texas recently joined a multi-state lottery called
"Megamillions,", which is an exaggeration, since it will probably never offer
a prize over one billion dollars <grin>.!

was watching t v last night. they were talking about money. They were
talking about $50000 and used the term 50 k. i hope this isn't a stupid
question but is the term k a slang term for multiples of $1000? I hope you
don't laugh at me but does k mean kilodollars? I have only heard the term
recently. My wife was reading me some house adds in our local paper for
houses a few months ago and one of the adds had the price for the house in
