John:

I have several reams of two sizes of paper, including 8.5" x 11" from both Weyerhaeuser and HP. The Weyerhaeuser shows the SI size, parenthetically, as 216 mm x 279 mm; the HP has the inch size only. However, my HP ledger/tabloid size paper (11" x 17")  does show the SI size -- again in whole millimeters, as 279 mm x 432 mm.

Both Weyerhaeuser and HP show the weight in both customary and SI -- i.e., as 24 lb (90 g/m). <-- That's a superscripted 2 after the m, in case your Braille reader can't handle it. It's not a regular 2, raised and downsized, but one of three already superscripted numerals available in the Western European ISO symbol set.

Subject: [USMA:31651] Paper

Hello i have a question.  I converted the size of paper 8.5x11 to mm and using the conversion factor of 25.4 mm per inch came out with the numbers 215.9x279.4. Would it be legal on the package of paper if it said 216.x280 mm? Are 8.5x11 sheets of paper exactly 8.5x11 inches? I know most people on this list don't like soft conversions but they are in my opinion better than no metric at all. Do packages of 8.5x11 inch paper have mm on the package as well? Thank you. John.
