When I moved from New Jersey to Ottawa, Ontario, I brought my car with me, and I drove it in Canada for four years using the internal numbers on the speedometer. There was no problem at all. If the car had been newer I might have considered having the speedometer changed, but I didn't see the need for it in the end.
