FFU = Fred Flintstone Units, thus called because they are the old-fashioned units that most of the world does not use, and which are more suited to the Stone Age typified by the Flintstones cartoon.
Could also stand for Failed Former Units, Funny Foreign Units, Fake Foolish Units, etc.
