Title: Message
I wrote the Met (Irish Meteorological Service) that, while I was glad to see they are already converting wind speeds to metric (by adding SI in parentheses following the Imperial units), I urged them to use the correct symbols of "km/h" rather than the "Km/hr" that they posted today.

I'll look on their site on Jan 20 (road sign changeover day) to see what they've got there. (I hope they drop Imperial altogether, though I fear they may add it parenthetically for a time to provide a transition). If they do add Imperial the SI, I will urge them to drop the Imperial. Perhaps Pat Naughtin will be able to send them info about the Australian experience to encourage them to adopt a "cold turkey" approach (though that's not the wording I would use, of course! ;-)

That's a fair comment.  My position is I like both metric and imperial. - for various different reasons, but mainly convenience.

You seem to be trying to justify using square feet instead of going metric. I want to go metric so I have no need nor desire to "get a feel for" 1000 sq. ft. at all.

PS Excuse me for sending you that message twice, once to your address and once via the USMA list. I try not to do that but sometimes I slip.
