Was watching CBS's Sunday Morning show this morning and they had a segment on 
nanotechnology.  The science reporter tried to explain how small that was by 
starting with the fact that he was about 2 m tall, and then scaling that down 
to the nano range, with about 2 nanometers being the distance across a DNA 
chain.
 
I admit that I was impressed, as usually they dumb down such things!
 
I also noticed that the scientists they talked to, used metric units as well, 
but that is often expected, as they might be hard pressed to express 
nanotechnology in non-metric units.
