Science and medicine (including dentristry) are predominantly metric. I don't think anyone would argue with that as metric is the best system to use in that particular aspect/application.

The signs are everywhere that the metric system is gaining ground. My dentist was explaining enamel too me in millimeters. A different dentist was explaining something to my wife about my daughter's teeth, also in millimeters. No non-metric equivalent was given in either case.

I was just watching a documentary today filmed in Fort Worth. A young man was buying a shirt in a department store. The 60-ish Texan tailor measured him with a centimeter tape measure!

Then I was reading an article on CNN that gave the distance between two cities in kilometers (miles).
