I meant 0.0929 not 0.929, got fooled by the erroneous conversion factors you were given by others.

Anyway, 0.0929 is close enough to 0.1, making it easy to remember that a value in square feet is about 10 times the value in square metres, thus if the difference is quite different to a factor of 10 then something is wrong, i.e. some lesser educated mortals try to do a linear conversion for area, so they get 1 square foot = 0.3048 square metre

Based on the definition of 1 inch = 0.0254 m, we multiply that by 12 to get 0.3048 m for 1 foot, square this to get 0.09290304 square metres.

So 1 square foot = 0.929 square metres is fairly accurate.

*Hello everyone. I haven't posted anything on the forum for a while but still checque it every day. i have a question. What is the conversion factor for going from square feet to square meters? I believe the everyday conversion factor is 1 sq ft = 0.09 sq m. I called 2 local librarys and one gave me the conversion factor of 1 sq ft = 0.923 sq m and the other one gave me 1 sq ft = 0.929 sq m. Does anyone know witch one of the 2 is correct? Thanks for all your help, much appreciated John Mercer. *
