This was the argument advanced by a number of witnesses at the 11 May hearing of the House Subcommitee on Environment, Technology, and Standards-- that the U.S. voluntary standards-setting system is flexible and shows superior results, and in order for the United States to continue to be a world standards setter (I'm talking, of course, about standards in general, not standards of measurement units), it must preach its gospel to the world and educate other governments as to its virtues.
