In America (or at least in Mecklenburg and neighboring counties :)), all
lengths in plats are written in decimals, even if they are in feet. Measuring
the length of a lot line to the nearest millimeter is impossible; the markers
are about a centimeter across and are rebars with irregular surfaces. So if
surveyors switched to centimeters, would they have this problem?
House plans, on the other hand, are in binary fractions of inches, and when I
have to draw one, it drives me batty.
