That makes no sense. If they change the size of a size 8 to fit a larger
figure, then what does the person who really fits a size 8 fit into? Maybe
a size 4? Then when she gets bigger, she'll want a size 4 and size 4 will
have to be made to fit a bigger woman. Do you see where this is leading?
They may have to try everything on because people's shape keeps changing
from poor diet and exercise habits and the size they bought the last time
doesn't fit this time. I don't think this problem can be solved by creating
a standard sizing system. Then again, women may try things on not to see
how they fit, but how they look in it. God forbid, she should bring home a
perfectly fitting dress only to find out when she puts it on the pattern
makes her look fat. Better to know that before you leave the store.

Nor does the construction industry have the problem of "creeping sizes"
when
a clothing manufacturer notes that its customer base is aging and
expanding,
so it expands the sizes so she can continue to say, "I'm a size 8; I've
always been a size 8; show me something in a size 8!" No wonder they have
to try on everything.
