Hardly. There is a lot of sentiment over the pub pint. It would be a brave government to ban it. Why do you think they secured an indefinite opt-out with the EU?

I'm not sure that the state is standing back because it fears it will hurt the emotions of the people.
Although could this be why roads haven't been affected by metrication?
By the way - when you say "indefinite opt-out" don't you mean 'derogation'? This only means that the EU are allowing us to keep using these words "for now".

Give me an example where a unit of measurement that was asked for in the first place by "the people".

I was talking about changing a unit of measure from one type to another when everyone was comfortable with the status quo.

They misinform whenever they argue and actively pursade people that (for example):

- a trader was convicted of selling a pound of bananas

This is really open to interpretation! Whichever way you try to spin it the man in question was ultimately convicted because he used lbs and oz instead of kg and g. What you are doing is using symantics. Its like saying "No, I was not convcted for speeding in a 30 zone, I was convicted for EXCESSIVE SPEED in a 30 zone" (something that happened to me when my SP30 was changed to an XP30 offence). Thus, I could say that I was doing 45 but I was not speeding.

- non-compulsion is a realistic option for a society to change its offcial system of measurement

Erm - prior to 2000 shops displayed metric and imperial.

- parking fines are illegal when issued without the offender being taken to court

You know that any effort on the political front to better your cause through ambiguity against odd laws is a valid route to take. If the law is an ass - test it!

I could go on, but my point is that there elements of the BWMA campaign that are less than honest and that they form the central plank by which they gain sympathy for their cause and appeal to populist politicians.

Do you really think that the BWMA has that much influience in the Commons?

Then perhaps you could give examples of the misinformation that motivated you to join them.

Mainly (but not exclusively):
1) Gloating over the death of Steve Thoburn ("one down xxx to go")
2) Lieing about metric and imperial
3) Equating imperial users with child abusers
4) Constant references to the destruction of imperial by all means necessary
5) Personal attack - just for wanting to RETAIN imperial (ie not anti-metric) 6) Mentioning communist and Nazi regimes as succesfull ideologies in "getting the [metric] job done"
7) etc

The truth can be sculpted to one view or another - we know that with debates about the EU, the Iraq war etc etc. Without these 'truths' being shaped in such a way we would have no need for democracy because there would be only one point of view. And we'd all be told to accept this. This can be achieved in two forms - utopia or authoritarianist dictatorship.

Vague and irrelevent generalities.

With respect - rubbish!! You cannot demand that opinions cannot be formed without instruction. What I wrote was (I think) a thoughtful point of view from **my own** personal position.
You have dismissed it as unworthy in just 4 words.
Do I take it, then, that its as simple as "you are right and I am wrong"? Is there no room for a difference of opinion? And ultimately how can my mind (and similar minds) be altered?

I thought we were being candid. No I am not asking for BWMA to be banned that would only play into their hands.

That's usually the answer people give to "Should the BNP be banned?"
I really hope you don't see an equation there.

But I do wish the government would stand up to this propoganda and at least set the record straight over this whole sorry issue.

Or leap-frog those toothless wonder and go straight to the *real* power.
