They ask for pints and half-pints (of beer) in many european countries.

As previously mentioned this usually means 500ml and 250ml measures - but not always.

Suppose things were the other way round and mL were legalised to replace the pint. Would you ask for seventeen and three eights fluid ounces just to avoid saying half a litre?


How are things asked for in metric countries? Do people ask for a litre, a half-litre or simply a glass or bottle?
