The original message quoted below makes the error of most imperialists, by saying that 100% of people would understand the imperial sign.

I personally do not understand how much 14 feet is at all. I understand metres, and most of the world would only understand the height restriction sign if given in metres. I am guessing from the text of the post that the original poster was Tony Bennett. At least I understand why he thinks all signs should be imperial, he has deluded himself into thinking that 100% of all humans can understand imperial, despite that fact that at least 90% of them were never educated in it nor understand it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

ARM supporters yesterday obliterated two metric height signs in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, showing a height for a low bridge of 4.2m.

The remaining height signs, announcing the height of the bridge as 14' 0", will be understood by 100% of road users and the absence of the metric height signs reduces confusion for motorists
