The other day I overheard my bosses (surveyors) talking in millimeters,
which is rare. One said that the difference between two datums
(geographical coordinate systems) is 247 millimeters, or something like
that. The other said "That's 2.4 centimeters, or about an inch." I knew
he had misplaced a decimal point, so I came out to set him straight.
"1000 millimeters is here [hand face down on top of my belly], so 247 mm
is here [hand somewhere on lower leg]."
