[USMA:33807] Airlines use kilometres

At my place of work, I see various documents relating to various 
companies and industries. For legal reasons, I cannot divulge any 
specific information, but, I did notice today that in a document 
relating to airlines, that they measure distances in kilometres. No 
mention of miles or nautical miles. It was mostly about costs of seats 
and how many kilometres the airlines fly. The airlines were British and 
from other countries.

I wonder if perhaps the American airlines also use kilometres in their 
calculations and accounting, and dumb down to miles for communication 
with their passengers?
