That's good news for the UKMA then since they can now close down, stop using money on producing "A very British Mess", close "think metric" sites, and claim a job "well done".

"Coffee" springs to mind.

Because they know they have lost the battle, that metric is already here, and that people want to use metric (except Stephen Humphreys and a few others), and they are desperate to do anything to make a stir or shake up the Internet. I think they do it for their own entertainment value, as there is no real value to their site, I certainly am not learning anything about why imperial is better than metric (if it really is!) from this webpage, and nothing that would in any way dissuade me from using metric. I just look at a page like that and think the BWMA have finally gone completely mad. I wonder what Freud would make of them?

Phil,

According to the BWMA the UKMA is lieing. You may wish to view their "evidence" and decide for yourself who is telling the truth or not. If the UKMA is behind the pressure, I support them and you should too. If they are fibbing, shame on them! What do they have to hide? They have every right to push the issue and as a pro-metric group they should.

Dan

... It is apparent that the UKMA tried the "state the facts" approach and it got them nowhere. They realize that in order to get the ball moving they had to pressure an authority like the EU Commission to force the issue.

The EU Commission didn't say who it was that prompted them to approach the UK government. The UKMA have now stated publicly their position in relation to this:
