agree! When my physics students wrote reports and use Roman numerals to
designate different sections, I would write:
"Ancient Roman numerals
should be used only by ancient Romans."
If the report had to be
corrected in other ways, I would require them to "correct" the roman numerals,
too, by changing them to Arabic numerals. (I didn't ever require that they
rewrite a report JUST to correct Roman numerals.)
Scott said he only
sees Roman numerals on movie copyrights. Unfortunately, I see them in much
more widely seen places. You don't think "Super Bowl XL" means "Super
Bowl Excel" or something, do you?
