Title: Re: [USMA:35521] Re: Happy New Year
Hi Pat et al:  FYI

A few years ago I suggested to the superintendent of schools here in Maryland (MCPS) that the SI and the NIST SI diagram be taught and used in science courses and classes.  He has told me on a couple of occasions since that he is committed to it. It has been implemented.  The MCPS has about 140 000 students in grades K-12.

Also, The Dictionary Project has included some basic SI, albeit rudimentary in this year's edition.  I've made suggestions to improve on this start.  Last year more than one million copies of the dictionary were given to third grade students, a large number by Rotary clubs.  This year, our Rotary club gave 852 copies to third grade students  in nine public and private schools in the immediate area.

Dear Stan and All,

Thanks for these valuable resources. I will definitely use ideas from all of them.

In return, could I suggest that you go to my 'Why metrication' page that I have recently re-written. You may find here some arguments in favour of metrication that you might be able to use in your work in the new year. It is at:

http://www.metricationmatters.com/why_metrication.html

By the way, I am currently editing a PowerPoint presentation to parallel the thoughts on the “Why metrication’ web page above. I will put details of how to get a free copy in the newsletter, ‘Metrication matters 32’, which is due out on 2006 Jan 10.

Cheers,
