I fully accept that as a campaigning point it's better to stick to
established metric practice with such things as wind speed. It would only
blunt the campaign and be distracting to introduce variants of our own.
That's why I was careful say that it would be better in a world wide
context, not just Britain and America.
On the point about aviation, do they actually use km/h for aircraft speed? I
was under the impression that the predominant practice was for knots even in
metric countries.
One other observation I'd like to make concerning speed measurements in
general. It's interesting that people say they always think of it in terms
of vehicle speed (km/h or mph) as though it is suitable as a universal
guage. Yet we seem to have some trouble convincing people to stick to a
single system of measurement in general.

If you are planning a aircraft flight and use km/h for the speed of your
aircraft, then it is useful to have wind speeds in km/h as well - this
makes
the corrections due to wind speed much easier to calculate.

I think it would be better if weather forecasts wordlwide used m/s
I don't see how km/h or mph convey anything over and above an arbitrary
scale. Units like km/h are really for journey times or comparison with
different modes of transport. So why not get used to the proper SI unit?
