Hello here is an e mail i sent to Freedom to
measure. I wonder if i'll get any responce. Hello my name is John Mercer. I
would like to make some comments about your anti metric stance in the USA. Did
you know that the metric system has been
legal in the USA since Jul. 28 1866. If you do a google search of metric laws in the US you will find this. The gallon foot mile ounce lb are not american in origin. The gallon was used by queen Ann of Britain. The foot was measured from an english king's foot. The mile came from Rome. The ounce from france and i think also the lb. The American auto industry started switching from inch fasteners to metric fasteners in the late seventy's. I don't believe the government told them to change. The 3 main diesel engine producers in the US all produce diesel engines in the US with metric fasteners. Harley-davidson introduced a new bike in the summer of 2001 called the V Rod, this machine has all metric fasteners from top to bottom. In the late seventy's the American auto industry started to list the displacement of their engines in cubic centimeters instead of cubic inches. The american people as far as i know have adjusted well and it hasn't taken anything away from the US. How come the driving public didn't get up in arms and say we want our American engines measured in good old cubic inches, we don't understand this liter stuff. I feel that the American people are smart enough to learn the metric system if given the chance. Remember America didn't get to be a world super power with ignorant people. Thank you very much for your time. My e mail address is [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Hope to hear from you soon. |
