An alteranative approach is to post a preliminary message offering the
attachment to anyone interested. It can then be sent direct to the personal
mail box of list members on request.
I have to agree with Jason that it's bad practice to send unsolicited mail
with large attachments. If the recipient doesn't use web mail then they have
no way of knowing about it or deletng it in advance.

hmm, I see your point, but the problem is that not everyone has a website
where they can post a large file and just provide a link in the email.

The only problem with that is that it still does not stop the email from
going onto the receiving server. The person's remote mailbox will still
have the email in it thus, generating a possible warning from your email
provider.
