Pierre:
I found the organization demonstrated in the attached index fulfilling the needs of my clients.

BTW, making the list (the easy part) and keeping it up to date (the nearly impossible part) took hundreds and hundreds of man-hours (boring man-hours on top of that).

Subject: [USMA:36271] Suggestion for metric vendors' list

I'd like to see the list revived, probably as a website. I think it should
list not only industrial suppliers but also suppliers of household goods,
such as measuring tapes for sewing, measuring spoons in milliliters,
thermometers, ovens, and scales.

I suggest categorizing things with a nine-digit number. The first digit could
indicate broad categories:
0-3. Measuring devices
4-6. Things made in metric sizes where size matters (e.g. screws)
7-8. Things made in metric sizes where size doesn't matter
9. Anything else (e.g. pamphlets)
Measuring devices can be further categorized by assigning a number 00-39 to the quantity being measured, then adding two more digits (offset by 50) to indicate the order of magnitude. So a bathroom scale would be 0151 because it
measures tens of kilograms, while a 30 cm ruler would be 0049.
