Coca Cola just came out with a scrumptious (IMHO) new beverage called Coca Cola Blak (that is how it is spelled). It is coffee-flavored Coca Cola! After trying it, I phoned the 800 number on the bottle and expressed my praise. When the operator asked me if there was anything else I'd like to say about the product, I replied, "Oh, I'd really like to see all your smaller sizes of Coca Cola in metric, too. You have 1-liter, 2-liter, 3-liter bottles, and I'd like to see quarter-liter and half-liter as your smaller sizes." Period. Just like that. "All metric, huh?" he said. "Yes." I replied again. I didn't belabor the point. I just cast a simple vote for metric sizes. The young man seemed to take my suggestion in stride.
Since getting off the phone, it has occurred to me that expressing our preference for metric sizes in such a simple, unargued way would be the most effective method for making that preference count. I think that's the sort of thing that will change FMI's mind about the public's preferences. Paul Trusten, R.Ph. U.S. Metric Association, Inc.
