I can remember when the feds made the change to metric measure for alcohol and
the USMA wante rational measures such as 100, 200, 500, etc.  ml. As these are
good R-numbers, consumers and makers would have a good range of quantities
without silly values such as 187 ml which reflects customary sizes.
Unfortunately, USMA failed to convince.

I have certainly bought beer at MacDonalds in Germany.  It is quite probable
that German law requires that the quantity of the beer be clearly stated (in
ml of course, except in Bavaria where they sell it by the litre).
