Wickepedia points out that the apple pie was extant in England as
early as the 14th century. It certainly is not an American invention,
although it has become very much common and popular in America ...
just as pizza and chow mein have!
"As American as pizza" or
"As American as chow mein"
would be just as logical (or illogical).
"As American as a Big Mac®"
would be more realistic.
