.....183 m is exactly 600 ft.
This is simple arithmatic. 1 yard (3 feet)=0.9144 m (rounded to 0.915 m)
200*0.915 m =183m =600.3919 ft (call it 600 ft).
In my earlier posts, I recommended the public can be approached vis calling the distance between wickets, at the cricket field, be CALLED 20 m instead of 22 yds. It is the way we wish our future children to learn or fall apart 'from what we wish to attain'.

Subject: [USMA:37366] Fun with National Geographic's international versions.
Date: Tue, 17 Oct 2006 21:15:12 -0400

As stunning as National Geographic is, I usually don't bother reading it
because of their steadfast refusal to use metric. A few days ago, though, I
was given a NG copy in Polish, so I gave it a try, half worried that I may
see dual measures in the text. My worries were quickly put to
rest--everything was solely in metric: text, maps, graphs and charts.
Still, I was having a chuckle as I recognized numerous artifacts of USC
measures. One particular offender was an article on the EU's use of
alternative fuels. It referred to a 183 m wind turbine that was to be built
by Denmark. 183 m is exactly 600 ft. Hmmm, Danes using feet. Yeah,
right. Somehow I think the whole thing went like this:

Danish engineers: "200 m wind turbine."
NG reporter in the US: "656 ft wind turbine."
NG editor in the US: "600 ft wind turbine."
Polish translator for NG: "183 m wind turbine."

In the same article, we have a graph showing the aforementioned turbine,
superimposed over an innocuous-looking grid with a scale off to the side
marked off in increments of 20 m. The scale does not line up with the
grid. A closer look reveals, that, you guessed it, the grid is marked off
in 10-ft increments. Sloppy, very sloppy. I would have thought that they'd
be more careful with international versions.
