Senator Hillary Clinton launched her campaign Web site (www.hillaryclinton.org) that included an opportunity to be the first blog post. I submitted the following:
****************************************************************************** The Democratic Party has always claimed to be the agent of "moving on." I am writing to seek the leadership of a would-be President Hillary Rodham Clinton in moving our Nation on to the metric system of measurement. The metric system is a decimal system of measurement that is as easy to use as dollars and cents. It has been adopted by almost all of the nations of the world except for the U.S. On January 1, 2010, the European Union will begin banning the use of non-metric units (such as ounces, feet, and pounds) in all literature and products imported and used in that 25-state nation. This will pose a major challenge to U.S. industry, which still uses these non-metric units in trade. It is ironic that this is happening, especially because Congress in 1998 declared metric to be this Nation's preferred system of measurement for trade. The U.S. Metric Association (USMA), Inc., is a non-profit, national organization, founded in 1916, and dedicated to the adoption of the modern metric system (the International System of Units, or SI) as the Nation's primary system of measurement. For more information on USMA and the metric system, please visit www.metric.org. I call upon Senator Clinton to stand up for this long-overdue change in U.S. trade and practice. I shall ask the same of opposing candidates. SI-ncerely, Paul Trusten, R.Ph. Public Relations Director U.S. Metric Association, Inc. [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Paul Trusten, R.Ph.
